Ministry of land Bangladesh

The Ministry of Land (ভূমি মন্ত্রণালয়) is the government ministry of Bangladesh responsible for formulating and implementing national policy on lands and other subjects which come under its purview.

Bangladesh is an agricultural country. Agriculture is one of the major sources of national income in this country and the livelihood of about two-thirds of the people. Therefore, the importance of land and water resources in this country is immense. Land is the basic natural resource that is the main source of food, industrial products, consumer goods, health care, etc. But due to population growth and unplanned use of land, this important resource of ours is declining day by day. With economic progress, the trend of urbanization is increasing, the scope of industrialization is gradually increasing, and the amount of land per capita is shrinking as a result of the continuous expansion of roads, hospitals, and educational institutions. The use of these important resources depends largely on proper planning. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the proper use of these natural resources and the optimum use of limited land through proper planning and policy. In this regard, the land use policy has already been formulated by the Ministry of Land. Land.

After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 through the great war of liberation under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a full-fledged ministry was formed to carry out all the work related to land. Currently the Department of Land Records and Survey, Land Reform Board, Land Appeal Board, Land Administration Training Center, and the Office of the Controller of Accounts (Revenue) are functioning under the Ministry of Land. At the divisional level, the commissioner, at the district level, the collector (deputy commissioner), at the Upazila level, the assistant commissioner (land), and at the union level, the union land assistant officers (tehsildars) are engaged in performing land-related functions. The Ministry of Land deals with land development tax and revenue collection, khas land management and settlement, watershed management, land acquisition and possession, land records, and surveying and training of land officers/employees. Also, redevelopment activities such as a collection of land development tax through banks, enactment of land laws and regulations in the public interest and rehabilitation of landless marginalized people, land zoning activities, khas land settlement among landless under char development and settlement project, construction and repair of Upazila and union land office, Development works such as modernization and provision of land-related services to the people in the shortest possible time are carried out by the Ministry of Land.
