Independence In Bangladesh, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nationalized about 36,000 primary schools in the country in 1973. Following this, Bangabandhu's daughter Jannetri Sheikh Hasina nationalized about 26,000 private primary schools created after 2013. The government is implementing various activities through the Primary Education Development Program-3 (PEDP-3) at a cost of about Rs 56,000 crore with utmost importance in the primary education sector.

At present, all the children of the country are being provided free new books on the first day of the school year. Pre-primary classes have been introduced in every primary school by creating new posts for teachers. As a result, it has been possible to reduce the dropout rate by ensuring 100% suitable children for primary school admission.

As a result of the growing number of students, new buildings are being constructed and expanded in the primary schools of the country. To increase the status of primary school teachers, the salary of assistant teachers has already been increased including upgrading the rank of head teachers from 3rd class to 2nd class.
